Volunteer Stewardship
Our Volunteer Program is central to our restoration efforts on the Kane and Two Mile ranches because long-term, ambitious conservation progress requires a constituency of active, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable stewards. Since 2005, volunteers have contributed over 39, 000 hours towards on-the-ground work on the Ranches and have facilitated rapid progress toward our conservation goals. Each year, our volunteers contribute hours equivalent to 7 full-time employees – greatly appreciated by land managers struggling with declining budgets. The volunteer program has helped to bolster partnerships with key land management agencies and has made it clear that conservation in the region is much more than a “special interest”. Rather, it is actively supported by a broad cross-section of citizens locally, regionally, and nationally.
Volunteers have had an enormous impact on the Kane and Two Mile Ranches, where they have built fences to protect and restore sensitive riparian habitats, modified ranch facilities to make them wildlife friendly, collected and planted native seed, surveyed plants and wildlife, removed invasive species, and assisted our researchers in data collection. There is still a significant amount of work to be done, and we can use your help! Please visit our volunteer webpage for more information on how you can get involved with ongoing volunteer projects. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you in the field!
