Accomplishments

Grand Canyon Trust has achieved milestones for renewable energy projects on Navajo and Hopi lands. We helped...

  • Initiate predevelopment activity for wind-energy projects at Grey Mountain and Big Boquillas Ranches by providing advice and establishing an asset management company.
  • Start up the Shonto Renewable Energy Company and finalize a comprehensive energy plan that will be key to securing grants and federal stimulus money. We are also providing advice to help this venture succeed.
  • Create the Arizona Sustainable Growth Fund, a funding mechanism for clean-energy projects, as a result of our lawsuit against Tucson Electric Power. These funds are being used to provide solar power to 150 Navajo families.
  • Guide the Hopi Tribe and Foresight Wind Energy through the predevelopment work on the 60-megawatt Sunshine wind farm. We continue to support to Foresight’s bid to Arizona Public Service for a renewable-energy power-purchase contract for the project.
