Flagstaff City Council passes resolution opposing Grand Canyon uranium mining

Responding to requests from the  Grand Canyon Trust, the Flagstaff City Council passed a resolution last night (12/7) supporting Secretary of Interior Salazar’s proposal to withdraw approximately one million acres of federal lands surrounding Grand Canyon National Park from uranium mining for twenty years.  Resolution 2010-74 was introduced by Councilwoman Celia Barotz and passed on a 6-1 vote.  Council members Karla Brewster, Al White, Art Babbott and Coral Evans voted in favor of the resolution along with Mayor Presler. Councilman Scott Overton cast the sole vote in opposition.

A copy of the signed resolution will be posted when it is available.
