Drafted and helped secure passage of an amendment to the Arizona Preserve Initiative that helped
protect thousands of acres of northern Arizona state lands
Co-drafted Arizona Citizens Growth Management Initiative
Coordinated several open space campaigns in the Flagstaff area
Oversaw development of a regional water conservation study effort culminating in the 160-page Rocky
Mountain Institute water conservation report
Co-sponsored monitoring design of Grand Canyon seeps and springs aimed at their protection

Current job description:
Nikolai is Senior Program Director for water and open space issues. His advocacy work includes issues
affecting the Colorado River, Greater Grand Canyon, northern Arizona regional water, and Arizona state
lands.

Responsibilities:
Represents the Trust’s interests in the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program

Directs Colorado River litigation including legal actions against federal agencies to improve their science
and policy applications

Works within the Coconino Plateau Water Advisory Council to determine strategies for developing
environmentally benign water supplies and conservation strategies for northern Arizona

Advocates against Lake Powell pipelines being allowed to criss-cross the region

Advocates for Arizona state land reform to include protections for 60,000 acres in northern Arizona

Works for further implementation of Flagstaff Area Regional Plan
