A vast land of canyons and mountains, the Colorado Plateau is the heart of the American West. Reaching 130,000 square miles along the Colorado River in Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico, it’s an iconic landscape filled with unique wildlife and ancient cultures. The Grand Canyon Trust is grounded in this place, working tirelessly since 1985 to protect the air, water, and wildlife of its slickrock canyons, fragile deserts, and forested mesas.

Join other Grand Canyon Trust members on our May 2012 Colorado River rafting trip!

In May 2012, the Grand Canyon Trust will host a Colorado River rafting trip for its members — and you’re invited! This Arizona Raft Adventures charter is for like-minded people interested in conservation and the future of the Grand Canyon and public lands of the Colorado Plateau. Several of the Trust’s staff will be on board so you can learn more about the natural history of the canyon as well as our programs and projects. In short, if a Grand Canyon river trip is on your “bucket list,” it’s difficult to imagine a more fun group to go with. There are three options:

Option Days River Miles Dates Cost
Upper 6 90 May 17–22 $1,946
Lower 9 135 May 22–30 $2,699
Full 14 225 May 17–30  $3,514

If you have the time, the full trip is highly recommended.

Upper River: May 17–22 (6 days)

Participants must arrive in Flagstaff by May 16 for departure on May 17. This trip requires a formidable hike out of the Grand Canyon from Pipe Creek (near Phantom Ranch) to the South Rim — a distance of 9 miles and an elevation gain of about 4,700 feet. Depending on your physical condition and the amount of weight you’re carrying (arrangements can be made to have packs carried out for you), this hike can take 5–9 hours.

Lower River: May 22–30 (9 days)

Participants must arrive in Flagstaff on May 21. This trip also requires a formidable hike from the South Rim to Pipe Creek (near Phantom Ranch) — a distance of 9 miles and an elevation loss of about 4,700 feet. Depending on your physical condition and the amount of weight you’re carrying (arrangements can be made to have packs carried down for you), this hike can take 5–6 hours.

Full River: May 17–30 (14 days)

Participants must arrive in Flagstaff by May 16 for departure on May 17. The trip will put in at Lee’s Ferry and take out at Diamond Creek.
