The Grand Canyon Trust has established a new, $6,000 annual scholarship program called Colorado Plateau Scholars. The program is open to graduating seniors attending public high schools in Kanab and Moab, Utah; and Flagstaff and Fredonia, Arizona.
Eight unrestricted, one-time scholarships for $750 each will be awarded to deserving students: one each for Kanab and Fredonia High Schools, two for Grand County High School in Moab, and four for Flagstaff high schools. Two of the Flagstaff scholarships are designated for Native American students, and two for all other Flagstaff public high school students.
Scholarship applicants must be graduating seniors attending public high school in the communities listed above; have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale); and be able to show proof of acceptance at an accredited two or four-year college of university. The scholarships are awarded on a one-time basis and are not renewable.
The deadline for submitting applications for the 2006 awards is April 15. Winners will be announced in May.
Applications and a quideline/instruction sheet will be available from the counselors at the participating schools and may also be downloaded by clicking on the links below. All applications are to be returned to your school counselors. Kanab High School: Mr. Stewart; Fredonia High School: Ms. Orton; Grand County High School: Tamara Larsen; Flagstaff high schools: Coconino HS students should return their forms to Emily Begay or Sophia Nicoletti, Flagstaff HS student forms go to Gail Mills and Sinagua HS forms go to Thelma Gomez.
