In June 2006, we received a memo from Assistant Secretary of Interior Mark Limbaugh describing an increased presence by Interior within the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program (AMP). The Interior memo also describes Interior’s intent to interrupt the AMP process that might establish an experimental flow regime from Glen Canyon Dam, one that would benefit Grand Canyon resources, including beaches and the endangered humpback chub.
The AMP facilitates discussion of Colorado River issues in Grand Canyon and makes recommendations for action to the Secretary of Interior. The program has 25 stakeholders, including federal and state agencies, tribal representatives, recreation and environmental advocates, including Grand Canyon Trust.
