Phone 2 Action - Grand Canyon Centennial Protection Act (Senate)

Uranium mining has left a toxic legacy of radioactive contamination near the Grand Canyon, polluting water, air, and the surrounding environment.

Please urge your senators to support and co-sponsor Senator Kyrsten Sinema's Grand Canyon Centennial Protection Act because:

  • Mining risks regional groundwater, which feeds seeps and springs inside the Grand Canyon and provides the sole source of water to the Havasupai Tribe.
  • The Grand Canyon region holds less than 1 percent of known uranium reserves in the country. This is the wrong place to mine uranium.
  • Uranium mining is not an economic driver in the region, but tourism and outdoor recreation are. Thousands of jobs depend on a healthy Grand Canyon.
