Uranium mining has left a toxic legacy of radioactive contamination near the Grand Canyon, polluting water, air, and the surrounding environment.
Please urge your senators to support and co-sponsor the Grand Canyon Protection Act because:
- Mining threatens regional groundwater, which feeds seeps and springs inside the Grand Canyon and provides the sole source of water to the Havasupai Tribe.
- The Grand Canyon region holds only 0.2 percent of identified uranium resources in the United States. This is the wrong place to mine uranium.
- Uranium mining is not an economic driver in the region, but tourism and outdoor recreation are. Thousands of jobs depend on a healthy Grand Canyon.
Urge your senators to support and co-sponsor S. 387, The Grand Canyon Protection Act.
