I care about national monuments

Speak up for Grand Staircase-Escalante and all our national monuments and parks today

Using an obscure congressional procedure, Utah’s congressional delegation is moving to tear down Grand Staircase-Escalante’s 2025 monument management plan. If this attack on Grand Staircase’s management plan is successful, other national monuments and national parks could be targeted next.

Protect Monuments

By using a short “joint resolution of disapproval” under the Congressional Review Act, only a simple majority vote in both houses of Congress would eliminate Grand Staircase’s management plan forever. Beyond just getting rid of the plan, the resolution, if passed, prohibits land managers from ever writing a substantially similar protective plan for Grand Staircase.

If this effort is successful, this bold attack on Grand Staircase could be carried further, potentially putting other national monuments’ and national parks’ protective management plans on the chopping block.

Please urge your members of Congress to vote “no” on any Congressional Review Act joint resolution of disapproval eliminating Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument’s Resource Management Plan.

Let your members of Congress know that you:

  • Want them to vote “no” on a Congressional Review Act joint resolution of disapproval eliminating Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument’s Resource Management Plan.
  • Strongly oppose rolling back protections for Grand Staircase and all our national monument and parks.
  • Value the protections national monuments bring for places you recreate, hunt, and fish (provide examples if you can).
  • Place high importance on Grand Staircase and other national monuments because they protect important cultural places that sustain Indigenous cultural practices and lifeways across countless generations.
  • Are concerned that using a Congressional Review Act joint resolution of disapproval eliminating Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument’s Resource Management Plan could set the stage to eliminate conservation management for more national monuments and parks.

Please take a few minutes to personalize your message. First, share your experiences and connections to Grand Staircase-Escalante. Then explain why protecting the monument matters to you personally.
