With a name like Hamburger Rock Campground, who wouldn’t want to stay there?
If the campground in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park is full, drive a few miles outside the park to Hamburger Rock Campground.
Hamburger Rock Campground is a cheaper and equally scenic camping area on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
Campsites are nestled among a rock outcropping that looks like rounded saucers of sandstone. Picnic tables and fire pits fit between the “hamburgers,” giving each site privacy and a sense of seclusion. Pit toilets are the only other amenity, but Hamburger Rock is a great base camp if you care more about access to adventure than fancy accommodations.
Sites can accommodate six people and two vehicles each, and are first-come first-served.
Note: Hamburger Rock is a dry campground, so you’ll need to bring all your own water with you.
Directions
From the intersection of Hwy 191 and UT 211, head west on UT 211 for 29 miles towards Canyonlands National Park. Look for a BLM camping sign and turn right on Lock Hart Road. Continue a mile north to the campground, which is on the right side of the road by a sandstone rock outcropping.
