The Bear River Ranger Station is located in the Uinta Mountains near the Utah/Wyoming border. Its name comes from nearby Bear River, which is the longest river in North America that does not flow into an ocean. The station is open seasonally (June – October) with rangers to answer questions about the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
Recreational opportunities in the area include camping, fishing, cross-country skiing, hiking, and snowmobiling. Recreation passes, which are required to use trails and facilities in the area, are available at Bear River Ranger Station in addition to maps, firewood permits, and forest information.
