Any trip into Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument should begin with a stop at the Interagency Visitor Center located just outside of Escalante, Utah. As the main information hub for the monument, the visitor center is filled with exhibits, photographs, and dioramas that teach you about the incredible landscape. The staff has an incredible local knowledge of the area, so be sure to ask them for hiking, camping, and dining recommendations. The book/gift store within the visitor center also has a range of field guides, natural history, and fictional books available for purchase.
