Our goals for community-based development in Native America

The Grand Canyon Trust will continue to help Native American communities...

  • Create a diversified, sustainable economy that offers competitive jobs while benefiting the environment — instead of mining more coal in an effort to achieve self-sufficiency.
  • Create new business opportunities and tax revenues while decreasing the spending (“leakage”) of locally earned dollars off the reservation.
  • Complete planning for the Sipaulovi and Shonto Marketplaces, establish a coalition of partners with business experience, identify potential funding sources, and implement methods for renewable energy and sustainable development.
  • Ensure strong leadership for North Leupp Family Farms, develop a comprehensive business strategy, design and fund a solar storage/drip irrigation system, and increase farmer awareness of successful approaches.
