CARLETTA TILOUSI: The Grand Canyon Tribal Coalition consists of tribal leaders in the Southwest that consider the Grand Canyon sacred. And we are all working together to protect the water that’s underneath us and also the animals and the natural resources here in this area.

STUART CHAVEZ: We’re placed here to protect the region, to protect the land, to protect the medicinal plants, even the animals that live within this region.

CARLETTA TILOUSI: So the national monument, once it’s declared, it’ll be a very historic moment for all the tribes that live in this region.

DIANNA SUE WHITE DOVE UQUALLA: It is time for the people to speak on behalf of the Mother Earth. If you believe that way, I really want you to support the designation of this monument.
