Our goal for air quality in the Colorado Plateau region
Grand Canyon Trust will continue working on air quality issues to ensure that:
- Coal plants and other significant sources of air pollution are not built in the region unless they meet the highest level of emission controls
- Existing coal plants are retrofitted to increase efficiency and reduce emissions before their scheduled retirement
The Trust is also a member of the Western Clean Energy Coalition (WCEC), whose goals are to:
- Help local residents organize efforts to oppose coal plants.
- Develop media campaigns and build coalitions.
- Provide technical information about proposed coal plants, alternative energy, and regulatory processes.
- Help groups submit comments on proposed power plant permits.
- Provide legal assistance for permit appeals and other legal actions.
