Our goals for energy development in Utah
- To encourage a well-planned, regional approach to energy development that incorporates cumulative impact analyses of conventional development on air, water, soils, climate change, and human health.
- To ensure that the development of oil, gas and other energy resources is in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and to work to tighten rules where necessary to protect air and water resources and human health.
- To educate the public and elected officials about industry practices and direct economic impacts to private property and citizens’ health.
- To educate citizens about their rights in the face of energy development.
- To encourage development of renewable and sustainable energy alternatives in communities and local and state governments while advocating for energy efficiency and renewable energy standards.
- To encourage county, state and federal cooperation to solve air- and water-quality issues.
- To prevent the permitting and approval of ill-conceived dirty energy schemes that would destroy roadless areas and wildlands, compete for over-appropriated water reserves, and pollute air and watersheds.
- To prevent fragmentation of the Greater Canyonlands region by new oil, gas, and potash leasing and development; uranium mining; and tar sands strip mining.
